What Should You Look For in a Training Course
Cost and content -
How much is it going to cost?
Does it include books and materials?
Is there a set fee - and if there is, how much will any extra training cost?
Is there provision for a refund if you do not go through with the whole course?
What happens if you need more than the training that is offered?
Is it a complete course or only part of one? Be wary of intensive courses!
Is there an 'on the road' assessment of your ability and likely needs, with a written record prior to the course starting?
The teaching method -
How much is distance learning?
Is there too much based in the classroom? (A cheap way out!)
How much is 'in-car'?
How many others will be in the car at the same time?
Will the training car be available for the exams?
Is the training tailored to your needs or is it a set course? Is it right for you?
Can you train whilst continuing with your existing job? Is the course flexible?
The trainers-
Who exactly in the company will be training you? What is their background? It is not enough just to be a member of ADITE, ORDIT or any other regulatory body - ask around for recommendations. How long have they been in that business?
Are they using special offers or gimmicks to entice you to join them?!
Do they know the national average pass rate for the exams?
What is their pass rate?
Trainee licence -
Does the course assume that a trainee licence will be needed?
What guarantee is there that there will be a school in your area willing to take on a trainee?
Are the terms and conditions (and cost of the trainee licence) made clear to you?
And finally........
Does the company have your interests truly at heart - or are they just a big name interested in
big money turnover?? With staff and offices to pay for!
If in doubt, get the answers in writing and don't sign anything or pay for a complete course unless you are sure of the facts and it suits you!
